Family Support Work
Who we are
Our family support worker, Mrs Elsawy-Butt. supports families in different ways:
- Listening and appreciating parent issues, offering suggestions and advice for individuals and families. Also signposting to other services available within Brent.
- Supporting children on a one-to-one basis and in a group. Listening and working with them in different ways.
- Forgoing community partnerships. We are proud to work with: Brent sports, Wembley Centre for Health and Care, Tesco Brent Park, NSPCC ChildLine, Sufra, Brent Centre for Carers, IDVA and Fit for Sport.
Supporting Children
- Lego Therapy: Supporting children to deal with emotional and social issues.
- Friendship Clubs: Weekly meetings to improve social skills and development of pupil self-esteem and confidence.
- One to One Support: Interventions with pupils in a range of areas.
- School Councillor: Supporting children with a qualified Councillor.
Supporting Parents and Families
- One to One: Listening and offering support in a non-judgemental way on a variety of issues.
- Parent Support Group: Weekly meetings, working together on common parenting concerns.
- English for Beginners / Advanced: Weekly classes with Brent staff.
- Parent Workshops: Various topics, such as managing behaviour and healthy eating. Examples include Triple P and Strengthening Families. We also offer shorter workshops to help strengthen the relationship between parent/carer and child. E.g. Dealing with disobedience. Events are advertised in the newsletter and by text message. All our courses are fully accredited.
- Parent Classes: We have a variety of academic and non-academic courses. These include Introduction to English, Higher level English, Stepping stones GCSE, Maths GCSE and positive strategies for managing behaviour.
- PSA: Parent Staff Association to encourage closer links between home and school. Termly meetings, all welcome.
